Privacy policy

Ayami makes a short daily call to your parent in India and sends you a summary. That means we handle personal and health-related information about two people: you, and your parent. This page says what we keep, why, who else sees it, and how you stay in control.
Who we are
"Ayami", "we" and "us" mean the team behind the Ayami app and website at ayami.app. For any privacy question, write to privacy@ayami.app. We follow the principles of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, because your parent lives in India and the data about them is held in India.
What we collect
About you (the person who sets up the account)
- Your name, and the sign-in method you use: phone number, or an Apple or Google account.
- Your plan and payment status. Card details go to our payment provider and are never stored by us.
- Settings you choose, and your device's notification token so the app can send you alerts.
About your parent
- Their name, phone number, city, language, how to address them, and the schedule you set for calls.
- The medicines, routines and concerns you tell us about, so the call can ask about them.
- What happens on each call: the recording (unless you turn it off), the transcript, a short summary, and notes about how they sound or feel, such as sleep, meals, mood or a mention of pain. This is health-related information.
- Their consent: whether and when they said yes, and when they asked us to stop.
About backup contacts
- The name and phone number of people you ask us to alert if something is wrong, and their reply to an alert.
Why we use it
- To make the calls you and your parent agreed to, and to write the summary you see.
- To alert you and your backup contacts when your parent says something that needs attention, such as a fall or chest pain.
- To run your account, take payment and give support.
- To keep the service safe and to find and fix faults.
We do not sell personal data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use recordings to market anything to anyone.
Your parent's consent
Calls start only after your parent has agreed. The first call is an intro call with you on the line, and a clear spoken yes starts everything. Ayami tells them it is an AI at the start of every call. If they say "band karo" (stop), the calls stop and their number goes on a do-not-call list so we do not ring it again. Only a new spoken yes from that number can reverse that. That list holds a scrambled (hashed) form of the number, not the number itself.
How long we keep it
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Call recordings | 30 days by default. The account owner can choose anything from 0 to 365 days. At 0, audio is not stored at all. |
| Transcripts, summaries and notes | 12 months by default. The owner can choose from 1 to 60 months. Open alerts stay until someone deals with them. |
| Message delivery log (no numbers or message text) | 90 days |
| Billing events | 13 months |
| Audit log (who did what, using ids and counts only) | 24 months |
| Consent records | With the account, and deleted with it |
| Do-not-call list | Kept, so we never ring a number that asked us to stop |
| Data exports we prepare for you | 7 days |
If a plan is cancelled, calls stop and the data is deleted after 30 days, which is your time to export it. If a plan is paused, the settings are kept for 90 days and then deleted.
Who else handles the data
We use these services to run Ayami. Each one sees only what it needs for its job.
- A database host stores our data. It is held in Mumbai, India.
- A voice call provider places the call and hears the conversation.
- An AI service reads a call transcript to write the summary.
- Messaging providers (including WhatsApp and an SMS carrier) carry the messages and alerts we send.
- Payment providers take payments.
- A places-search service receives a city name when you search for your parent's city.
These companies handle data under their own terms and may keep it for a period. We choose short or zero retention where they offer it. We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
Your choices and rights
- Get a copy. In the app, go to Settings → Privacy and data → Export all data. You get a zip with your data and the recordings.
- Delete everything. Settings → Privacy and data → Delete everything. Billing is cancelled first, then the account, its calls and its recordings are deleted.
- Delete one parent. Remove a parent from their profile and their recordings are queued for deletion.
- Change how long things are kept in the same place.
- Correct or ask about your data, or withdraw consent, by writing to privacy@ayami.app.
Only the account owner can export or delete the account, because the data is theirs to hold. If your parent wants their own information deleted, they can tell the family member who set up the account, or write to us. Backups of the database keep deleted data for a short period (about a week) before they expire.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Recordings sit in a private storage area that only the account's own members can reach, through short-lived links. Alert pages for backup contacts work from a link that is signed, works once and expires in 24 hours. No method is perfectly safe, but we limit who and what can reach personal data.
Children
Ayami is for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this page in a way that matters, we will tell account owners in the app or by message before it takes effect.
Contact and complaints
Write to privacy@ayami.app with any question, request or complaint about your data. We will reply as soon as we can.
